Anti-corruption prosecutors say the mayor of the southern Romanian city of Craiova has been arrested over corruption accusations.
Judges ruled Wednesday that Antonie Solomon can be held in custody for 29 days while authorities investigate allegations that he took bribes and falsified documents.
The Craiova city hall press office says prosecutors have requested documents referring to the building permit for a supermarket and to city hall's giving a stadium for free to football club Universitatea Craiova.
Solomon's lawyers declined to comment.
Solomon was elected the city's mayor in 2004 as a member of the ruling Democratic Liberal Party.
