Romania’s unemployment rate almost doubled in December compared with a year-before, hitting the highest levele in the last six years the National Employment Agency, ANOFM, said on Thursday.
The jobless rate was 7.8 per cent in December, up from 4.4 per cent a year earlier.
The number of unemployed people at the end of December stood at 709,383 at the end of 2009, up from 683,123 in November.
The jobless rate in Romania remains one of the lowest in the European Union, however.
One reason for the fall in recent years has been the migration to Western Europe of more than 2 million people.
