US denies it has a favorite in Romanian elections
A U.S. ambassador says Washington does not support any of Romania's presidential candidates.
Ambassador Mark H. Gitenstein in Bucharest was denying local media reports that the U.S. supported Romania's former U.S. ambassador and opposition leader Mircea Geoana.
Geoana is one of the dozen candidates running against President Traian Basescu in the Nov. 22 election.
Basescu is hoping to win his second five-year term.
Gitenstein made the comments in a statement issued Wednesday.
