Romanian hospitals receive antiviral medicine for swine flu prevention

BUCHAREST, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Nine infectious diseases hospitals in Romania have received antiviral medicine for swine flu prevention, local media reported on Thursday.

The medicine was provided to Matei Bals Institute for Infectious Diseases and Victor Babes Hospital in Bucharest, as well as the infectious diseases units located in Craiova, Timisoara, Cluj, Brasov, Constanta, Iasi and Targu-Mures.

Health authorities also urged Romanian citizens who returned from swine flu-hit areas to go to an infectious diseases hospital as soon as possible in case of flu-like symptoms.

A ministry team led by Health Minister Ion Bazac headed to Luxembourg Thursday to attend the meeting of EU health ministers targeting the swine flu issue.

The World Health Organization has raised its level of pandemic alert from phase 4 to 5, one step short of a full-scale pandemic.
