Romania told EU it wants medium term external aid

BUCHAREST, March 10 (Reuters) - Romania has officially notified the European Commission it wants to get medium-term external aid to prevent a potential financing crisis, the finance ministry said on Tuesday.

It said the ministry and the central bank have started talks with representatives of the Commission, the International Monetary Fund and international financial institutions to assess macroeconomic developments and potential financing needs. 'Following preliminary discussions, Romanian authorities are looking at accessing medium-term foreign financial assistance, a decision communicated to the European Commission,' the ministry said in a statement.
