Michelin’s tire manufacturing plant in Silvania Zalau, Romania, will halt production for 18 days in March based on the lack of orders, dented by the economic downturn.The plant in Silvania Zalau employs 1,300. Before the current economic downturn, the plant produced over 600,000 tires annually.
On Jan. 6, Michelin resumed activity at its three plants in Romania, after closing gates on December 12, owing to the drop in global demand caused by the economic downturn.
The other two plants, Romsteel Cord and Victoria Floresti, will remain open with the exception of Sundays. (Tire Review/Akron)
