French, Romanian police bust burglary ring

Thursday, March 5, 2009

CAEN, France: Investigators say police in France and Romania have arrested 26 people in a probe of the burglaries of nearly two dozen stores in central and northern France.

The cross-border cooperation by French and Romanian police ends months of investigation into thefts by the suspected gang that netted nearly €1 million ($1.26 million) worth of spoils.

The group allegedly targeted opticians, perfume shops, and telephone, luxury goods and hardware stores.

The investigators on Thursday credited unprecedented cooperation involving a bi-national police team that led to the arrests a day earlier: 14 in France and 12 in Romania.
