Bulgaria and Romania have agreed on building a gas line connecting the Bulgarian city of Ruse and the Romanian Giurgiu the Bulgarian Energy Holding reported.
The project has been discussed at a meeting in Sofia between "Bulgartransgaz", which is a subsidiary of the "Bulgarian Energy Holding" and the Romanian "Transgaz."
Both parties will study the possibility of partial financing from European funds. The "Bulgartransgaz" CEO Angel Semerdzhiev announced that the preliminary study will be financed by the the Bulgarian and Romanian companies while the price of the study was still to be determined.
When asked if the quick decision about the project could be deemed a sign that a second gas crisis was looming, Semerdzhiev said that it could be considered a measure for increased security for the gas supply of both countries.
"This is a strategic move, not a crisis situation," Semerdzhiev said.
Romania and Bulgaria are going to further discuss additional joint projects for natural gas supply,
