French-Romanian carmaker Dacia on Monday resumed production at its site in Mioveni in southern Romania, but on the same day announced it will close once again for two weeks between January 26-February 8. Last year, Dacia stopped production four times and laid off 620 workers whose contracts expired at the end of December, blaming a decline in sales.
The economic crisis led to a 50 percent drop in cars sales in Romania in November 2008 compared to the year before.
Dacia has said will invest €150 million next year, instead of the €250 million that it had planned.
Renault has invested €1 billion in Dacia since buying it in 1998.
