Romania: Signature of the Cooperation Programme between the Romanian Government and the Government of the United Mexican States for 2008-2011

The Cooperation Programme in the fields of culture, education, youth and sports between the Romanian Government and the Government of the United Mexican States for 2008-2011 was signed at Ciudad de Mexico, on December 3, 2008 by Manuela Vulpe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotential of Romania to Mexico and Alberto Fierro Garza, Head of the Cultural and Educational Division at Mexico's Foreign Ministry.

The date the programme will enter into force is the same with the date it was signed on and it will be valid until December 31, 2011. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries will agree, diplomatically, upon the date and the place of the meeting in 2012 for the organization of the 2nd session of the Mixed Commission that will assure the continuity of the obligations undertaken.

The programme signed on December 3 will enhance the cultural presence of Romanian in Mexico and of Mexico in Romania also from the perspective of a series of significant anniversaries, 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries - in 2010, 200 years since the battle for Independence from Mexico and 100 years since the Mexican revolution.

Background information

The programmes sets forth arts and culture collaborations projects in terms of archeology, anthropology, cultural patrimony, international festivals, visual arts and museums, music, theatre performances, cinematography, editorial and reading promotion, translation and dissemination of the literary works of Romanian and Mexican authors.

In the education field, projects regarding the general and elementary education, superior education and academic cooperation, scientific-academic mobility, human resource training, dissemination and foreign languages study, diplomatic studies and international relations have been established.

The programme also provides cooperation actions in the field of archives, radio, television, audio-visual mass-media, intellectual property rights, youth, physical education and sports.

The programme is part of the documents signed in the last years between Romania and Mexico, being intended to facilitate the amplification of the bilateral relations in all fields: The cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Economy and Commerce from Romania and the Ministry of Economy from the United Mexican States, signed on January 22, 2007, and the Programme of bilateral cooperation in the sports filed between Romania and Mexico, signed on December 4, 2007.
