Romania, Slovakia Honour Kosovo Passports

08 October 2008 Pristina _ Romania and Slovakia, both countries which say they vehemently oppose Kosovo’s independence, say they will however recognise Kosovo’s new passports.

“This is a signal that new recognitions are to come and reasserts Kosovo’s path towards Euro-Atlantic integration,” Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said.

Romania and Slovakia were both countries that voted for Serbia’s bid at the United Nations General Assembly to seek the International Court of Justice’s opinion on the legality of Kosovo’s independence.

Yet now they join countries such as Greece, Macedonia and Montenegro which have recognised as valid Kosovo’s new passports.

Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008.
