Romania Opens First ‘EU Standard’ Hospital

02 October 2008
Bucharest _ Romanian women looking for a modern approach to childbirth and healthcare can now go to the new obstetrics and gynecology hospital opened on in Bucharest.

The 195 bed hospital, the first medical unit to meet European Union standards in the Balkan country, will provide labour and delivery assistance, prenatal care and gynecological exams.

The hospital was opened following an investment of some €7 million, of which most of the money was invested in purchasing new, modern equipment, according to Romania’s Health Minister, Eugen Nicolaescu.

In Romania, the publicly-funded health system is generally suffering from a lack of expertise, outdated equipment and grossly inadequate financial resources.
