BUCHAREST, Romania - Trade unions say 100,000 public sector workers staged a two-hour strike in cities around the country to demand higher salaries.
The strike began Thursday at 8 a.m (0500 GMT) and ended at 10 a.m (0700GMT).
Union leader Romeo Neagu said customs officers, employees in the tax and finance sectors, statistics clerks, town hall and child protection employees took part in the strike.
Trade unions want a 50 percent raise. The government says it cannot afford that.
Later, hundreds of state sector employees protested outside the Victory Palace, where the prime minister and other government officials have their offices, to demand higher salaries.
