Finmeccanica's Alenia signs 217 mln eur Romania contract for 7 C-27J planes

MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Finmeccanica SpA said its Alenia Aeronautica unit has signed a contract in Bucharest to supply the Romanian defence ministry with seven C-27J military transport planes for 217 mln eur.

In addition to the seven aircraft, the contract foresees the supply of services such as pilot training, logistical support and flight simulators to be based in Bucharest, it said.

In November last year, the Romanian ministry chose Alenia's product ahead of EADS's CASA C.295 because it fully satisfied technical criteria and because of its competitive financial offer, it said.

This contract brings Alenia's total C-27J orders to 117, including orders from Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Bulgaria and the US, it said.
