Russian military alarmed by deployment of U.S. bases in Romania, Bulgaria

MOSCOW. Sept 19 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry is seriously concerned by the proposed location of U.S. bases in Bulgaria and Romania, Maj. Gen. Vladimir Nikishin, a representative of the Defense Ministry's Main International Military Cooperation Department, said on Wednesday.

"The location of NATO bases in Bulgaria and Romania actually means that the Alliance is creating bases for building up it forces in Eastern Europe, which is at variance with the adapted Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty," Nikishin told the parliamentary hearings on the issues of suspension of the CFE Treaty by Russia.
