Romania submits Cannes prize-winning film for foreign film Oscar

Bucharest - Romania has submitted the film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, which won the prize for best film at Cannes in May, to be considered for the Oscar for best foreign film, the Romanian film institute said Thursday. Romanian director Cristian Mungiu won the Palme d'Or for best film at the 2007 Cannes International Film Festival in France for the film, which stars Anamaria Marinca. It is set during the dark days of communist dictator Nicolae Ceaucescu's reign (1965-1989) and concerns the plight of two friends trying to arrange an abortion at a time when it was strictly forbidden.
