BenQ sales up 40 percent in Romania in first half of 2007

Electronics giant BenQ posted a 40-percent year-on-year increase in sales in Romania in the first half of 2007 due to high growth rates registered in the notebook, photo camera, LCD monitor and projector segments, local media reported Thursday.

"The favorable 2007 development is due to maintaining top position in the multimedia projector sector which increased by 87 percent, and the notebook sector which soared by 131 percent, and also to the constant pace of the LCD monitor sector, with a 26 percent growth rate," company officials were quoted as saying by the local daily Business Standard.

Mike Borze, managing director of BenQ for Central and Eastern Europe, said the company "targets a 60 percent increase in Romania in 2007." He added that the company is analyzing the possibility of introducing new product ranges to the market.

"BenQ registered a significant rate of growth in its main business lines in the Romanian market. The company is leader in the projector market, with a 38 percent market share," said Bobby Durbac, Marketing Manager for BenQ Romania.

The company's net sales reached 16 million euros (21.6 million U.S. dollars) in 2006, up from 8.2 million euros (11.07 million dollars) in 2005.

"We registered a 95 percent annual increase in our business in 2006, which placed us among companies with the highest growth rate on the local IT market," Borze said.

BenQ's partners in Romania are Altex, Darer, Proca Romania, RHS Company, Tornado Systems, and Star Print. The BenQ corporation includes three major business groups: the Digital Media Business Group, the Integrated Manufacturing Service Business Group, and the Mobile Communications Business Group.
