Romania: Retrack to develop a rail link Constanta - Rotterdam

Railway Market Magazine

The Administration of Maritime Harbours SA Constanţa invited a representation of European consortium Retrack and Romanian railway operators were invited also.
Retrack representatives presented the project of the consortium which is related to railway transport.

Retrack European consortium was set up at the beginning of this year, at the initiative of a group of railway operators, IT specialists and research and development organizations.

The consortium is making studies regarding the development and the implementation of an innovative concept for building a railway corridor from Rotterdam to Constanţa and in Black Sea region, towards Turkey and Ukraine.

The project is very ambitious and has a huge potential as it wants to create a corridor for freight transport between Western and Eastern Europe. Having this new concept on freight transport, the partners in Retrack consortium want to prove that the new trans-European corridor might be a competitive alternative to road transport.

The axis of the corridor links Constanţa Harbour and Rotterdam, crossing Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Austria. The new corridor will link traditional EU member states, such as Holand, Germany, Greece and Scandinavian countries, to the recent member states like Romania and Bulgaria, as well as the candidate country – Turkey.
